This Project is for the birds, and they are winning this
week.
(this week’s observations on my $100 challenge)
Well the Hen Condo is ready for paint (well see if that
happens soon) and nearly ready for occupancy.
The problem is that I have no occupants (kind
of like the Olympic village in Sochi.
The source that I was going to use for mature egg laying
chickens is not going to happen. It is a long story that involves my friend’s
daughter who is off to college and cannot care for them anymore and knows me
well enough that she is pretty sure that I will BBQ them when they age out
(they are already aged out, jes’ sayin). So she rehomed them elsewhere when she
was home. Like they aren’t going to end
up the same way anyways eventually.
So I am back to first base.
I went to a feed supply to ask and was referred to their bulletin board
in the back where I found a phone number for someone with pullets (teenager
chickens). Will check with them on
Monday. My other option is mail order, which
limits me on inventory as I will not spend over twenty dollars on this venture
(it is in the small print of the rules). It can be noted that when this is over I will
Be making a cash
investment into the esthetics of the Hen Condo, which will then become Club Med
for Hens.
Basically all is not lost, just somewhat delayed. Still this
is a good exercise, which is what it is intended to be.
On an upnote, I was talking to a young couple in the foyer
at church who have just done a backyard coop.
They are loving it and now supplying all of their consumption needs (and
their neighbors too).
